UBISFOT'S NEW GAME PROJECT REPORTEDLY HAS DOZENS OF BATTLE ROYALE GAME

UBISOFT'S NEW GAME PROJECT

When a new trend emerges, it becomes natural for game studios to try and create their games with their own unique characters.

Battle Royale became the hottest genre of 2017 with the release of PlayerUnknown's Battlegrounds. Although not the main pioneer, the game from Bluehole/Krafton popularized and inspired many game studios to create battle-royale games until now.

Now there are 3 giants battle-royale genre, Fortnite, Apex Legends, and Call of Duty: Warzone. All three of them succeed because of the unique characters with various story backgrounds and captivating gameplay that distinguish them from PUBG.

Is Ubisoft's New Game Project a Battle Royale Game?

Ubisoft - Hyper Scape

Ubisoft had tried to follow the trend by making the Hyper Scape game, but it failed to attract attention even with a series of unique ideas implemented. The game is only less than 2 years old.

But it seems that apart from this game, there are several other battle royale projects that the French publisher tried to do before they were all cancelled. This was conveyed directly by insider Tom Henderson.

Tom Henderson reports that he spoke directly to 5 people from Ubisoft some of whom are still working in the studio and some who have left. According to them, many experiments on this genre had to be canceled when it was presented to the playtester.

According to an employee, the studio behind Assassin's Creed and Far Cry, there were dozens of game projects in a similar genre, but it was not clear how many were in the advanced phase of development.

The company led by Yves Guillemot does have experience in making large maps and also the shooter genre, it's only natural that they try to jump into the hype of this genre.

However, the news that many game projects in the battle-royale genre have been developed shows that there is a lack of focus on this French-based company.

Ubisoft has decreased in revenue and canceled 3 games at once

Ubisoft - Skull and Bone

On the other hand, Ubisoft has experienced a significant decline in revenue. The absence of Assassin's Creed and Far Cry in 2022 coupled with Just Cause and Mario + Rabbids: Sparks of Hope performed below expectations, making their finances quite troubled in the last 12 months.

They have also canceled 3 games that have not been announced to the public, as well as postponed Skull and Bones for the sixth time. Their free-to-play games like xDeviant, Ghost Recon: Frontline, and the new The Division haven't had any news yet.

But on the other hand, they are also preparing Assassin's Creed Mirage and Avatar: Frontiers of the Pandora for this year.
